View your writing time as JUST as important as your normal day job
(for the luckier ones, this IS their day job)... and make it a point to schedule time to write everyday, no excuses.  If this is something that you feel strongly about -- or even something you just genuinely enjoy -- give it the credit and time it deserves.  It is work.  It is a job...even if you don't get paid for it, even if you're the only one who ever reads it.  Make writing  as an actual daily responsibility, and not just a cute little way of passing the time.   You're a writer, not some silly kid who can't get his homework done unless Mom's standing over his shoulder the whole time.   Step up. Do the work. 'Nuff said.

 G.Y.S.I.T.C.A.J.W.
-- get yourself in that chair and just write
.   All of the self-help books for writers (and believe me writing to help writers write is probably just as lucrative as the bridal industry and all of its hype), essentially boil down to that. Doodle...write down snippets...random thoughts...heck, you can even make a list of all the reasons you have and all the distractions you have that keep you from writing, but set a timer or a word count goal, and just go...keep it up, and you then have "muscle memory" for your brain...you will get used to the routine, you'll be able to focus more.

If you don't take
yourself
and
your writing seriously,

 no one else will.
