What made you write this? A picture I took last year, that I posted as today's prompt on http://y-citywritersforum.blogspot.com/

Quote
Justin examined the huge claw impression in the side of the canyon wall.  “What could have left a print that big?”

Chris stepped forward with his Swiss Army Night, replete with tape measure.  “That thing is a foot wide and two feet long, but it’s shallow.  Only a few inches deep.”

“Some type of bear, do ya think?”  Justin frowned.

Chris shook his head.  “Nah, a bears track would be wider.  This appears to be some kind of canine print.”

“A really big dog.  I don’t think that there are any known species of dog that big.  Do ya reckon, Chris.”

“Maybe we’ll discover a new species.”

Justin could almost see the dollar signs flipping in his friends eyes.  “I definitely, don’t want to meet that animal.  Really, that print is taller than me.”

“It’s definitely big, my friend.  I say we follow the tracks.”

“I say we call animal control or the forest rangers, anybody who are better suited for this than two unarmed men.”

“I have my pocket knife.”

“Do you seriously think that will do any good against anything that can leave impressions imbedded in the side of a canyon?”

“I guess not.  Uh, Justin, we don’t have any choice.”

Chris turned to look and saw the biggest red dog he’d ever seen in his life.  It stood there holding a stick and wagging its tail.

“I think we just discovered the inspiration behind Clifford, the Big Red Dog.”
